George Stein and Beth Schroeder rehearse a scene from "First Night," the next production at the County Seat Theater in Cloquet. It opens on May 16.

The County Seat Theater will present "First Night" by Jack Neary, one weekend only. The tender, sweet, and yet acidly incisively funny romantic comedy will have you leaving the theater feeling warm, remembering the crushes and happy loves of your youth, and dreaming about living it all over again.

It's New Year's Eve, 1985. Danny Fleming, in his mid-30s, is about to close up his video store for the evening when into the store pops a woman he believes he remembers from grammar school.

What he remembers most is that this woman went away to be a nun. Why is she there? Why does he care?

Fleming, portrayed by CST newcomer George Stein, had convinced himself that life's dreams can't be anything more than dreams. Then back into his life walks his eighth-grade flame, Meredith O'Connor, only now it's Sister Meredith Louise, portrayed by Beth Schroeder.

As the story unfolds, we

find out the answers to many questions.

The County Seat Theater Company will present performances at 7 p.m. May 16, 17 and 18; and at 2 p.m. May 18 and 19 at the Encore Performing Arts Center in Cloquet.
