Deer hunting licenses went on sale earlier this month and the 2022 Minnesota hunting regulations are now available at mndnr.gov/Hunting. Cloquet school board members discussed changes to their Covid-19 policy at their Aug. 22 meeting, with superintendent Michael Cary predicting that school will start to resemble what it looked like pre-Covid. These policy changes follow new guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention updated earlier this month. Former Cloquet High School football player Markus Pokornowski has signed to play football with the University of Minnesota Duluth football team. In doing so, Pokornowski will join his older brother, Tim, as a Bulldog. Markus signed with UMD following a tryout earlier this month. Former Minnesota Wilderness junior hockey coach Brendan Phelps won’t face charges after two men in an online video alleged that Phelps had traveled to Sleepy Eye, Minnesota, for an intimate encounter with someone he believed was a 16-year-old male. Margaret Ellen Veilleux, 93, passed away peacefully in her sleep Aug. 18, 2022, at Inter-Faith Care Center in Carlton. She was a longtime resident of Wrenshall before moving to Carlton Place Assisted Living in 2020. Margaret was the fifth of 12 children, born to Hubert and Roverda (Hammitt) Grover on May 17, 1929, in Wrenshall. She was raised on the family farm and attended school in Wrenshall. Martin “Bob” Besch, 80, of Wright passed away Saturday, Aug. 20, 2022, in his home. He was born on May 18, 1942, to Lewis and Betty Besch in Manhattan, New York. Crowds started filling the Minnesota State Fairgrounds on Thursday morning, as the fair begins its 12-day run. Cloquet police officers responded to a crash between a motorcycle and a Honda CR-V vehicle Monday night that one person did not survive. According to a news release, at approximately 11:05 p.m. Monday, Aug. 29, the Cloquet Police Department responded to the crash at Carlton Avenue and 22nd Street in Cloquet.
