She was born on Jan. 12, 1919 to Swedish immigrant parents, Emil A. and Hulda M. Olson.

Her mother, a survivor of the 1918 fire, saved the family by hiding in a culvert in Brookston. She settled in Brookston where Mildred attended grade school and high school, graduating salutatorian of her class. She took the Civil Service exam and was hired in Duluth in the Register of Deeds office of the St. Louis County Courthouse, where she worked for 32 years.

She met the love of her life, Harold Kjoberg, and they married in 1945. They were married for 53 wonderful years. They traveled in their motorhome across the USA and Baja Peninsula. They made many trips to Europe to visit relatives in Sweden and Norway.
