Obituary: George Hamilton McCausland

George H. McCausland, 83, of Cloquet passed away surrounded by family on Sept. 26, 2021, at St. Mary's Medical Center in Duluth. He was born May 15, 1938 in Duluth, the son of Thomas and Ruth (Thompson) McCausland.

George was raised in Carlton and attended the University of Minnesota Duluth. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1958 to 1962 as a torpedoman in the submarine service. George worked as a salesman for Gopher State Leasing 1965-1968 in Duluth; Tri-State Leasing Sales in Hastings, 1969-1970; owned and operated the Golden Gate Supper Club in Scanlon 1971-2001; and was involved in construction and business development in Cloquet 2002-2008. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 1163 in Cloquet, the Cloquet Country Club, and the Carl Anderson American Legion Post 262, and had served as president of the Minnesota Licensed Beverage Association. George enjoyed golfing, downhill skiing, hunting and fishing.

George was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Mark McCausland; one daughter, Pamela McCausland-Pollard; one grandson, Austin Davis; and two brothers, John and Bill McCausland.

He is survived by his wife, Marjorie McCausland; sons Roger (Candi) McCausland and Ryan (Hilary) McCausland; daughter Kitty (Dave Johnson) McCausland; stepson, Jamie (Mindi) Pollard; stepdaughter, Kelly (Rick) Lake; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life for George will be held 2-4 p.m., with sharing of eulogies at 3 p.m., on Monday, Oct. 4 at Nelson Funeral Care.
