Obituary: Ruth Irene (Olson) Rasmussen

Ruth Irene (Olson) Rasmussen went to be home with her Lord and Savior on May 25, 2022 at “Interfaith Care Center” in Carlton, MN at almost 97 years old.

She was born May 31, 1925 to Elmer and Hannah Olson, and grew up in the Duluth/Superior area. She attended school in Duluth until her senior year of high school when she graduated from Superior Central High, receiving the Betty Hanitch Scholarship. She majored in Math and Home Economics at Duluth State Teachers College. She then taught Math one year and Home Economics three years in Barnum, Minnesota. In 1955-57 she launched the Home Economics department in Goodridge, Minnesota. She taught full-time for 10 years and substituted for another 25 years.

Ruth was married to Virgil Rasmussen on May 30, 1949, and they pastored together for 55 years, including 24 years at the Cloquet Gospel Tabernacle (now Journey Christian Church) in Cloquet, MN. Ruth’s life was completely devoted to loving and serving Jesus, her family and countless others. To know her was to love her, and oh how we loved her!

Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil; her parents; brother, Sydney Olson; sister, Violet Fick; two sons-in-law; and one grandchild.

She is survived by her three daughters; LeAnn (Paul) Nelson, Linda Smith, Lynette (Alan) Sclater; three sons, Arlen, Nathan (Karen), Steve (Janice). She is also survived by fifteen grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren.

Ruth’s family wishes to express their deep appreciation to the staff at both Interfaith Care Center and St. Croix Hospice who have cared so professionally and lovingly for Ruth for the past two years.

Visitation: Thursday, June 2, from 5-7 p.m. at Journey Christian Church in Cloquet. Visitation will continue from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. funeral service Friday, June 3, also at the church.
