Obituary: Burton O. Peterson

Burton O. Peterson, 93, passed away June 25, 2023, at Evergreen Senior Living in Cloquet with his loving family by his side. He was born June 15, 1930, in Mahtowa.

Burton graduated from Barnum High School, and held various jobs in the Mahtowa and Cloquet area before serving in the U.S. Army. He then worked for Potlatch for 36 years. Burton owned and operated a beef farm in Mahtowa for many years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, being with his family, and especially being Santa Claus at Christmas and watching the joy on people’s faces.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Gotfrid and Agnes; son Gerald; and eight brothers and sisters.

He is survived by Glendora, his wife of 66 years; sons Chuck (Delite) and Lorin; daughter, Barb (Ron) Kunelius; daughter-in-law, Debra Peterson; 10 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. Burton is also survived by a very close friend, Earl Erickson.

Visitation: 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. funeral service on Friday, June 30 at Mahtowa Covenant Church in Mahtowa. A burial will follow the luncheon at Mount Salem Cemetery in Mahtowa.
