Obituary: Roy E. Dickison

Roy E. Dickison, 89, of Cloquet, passed away Thursday, June 22, 2023, at the Franciscan Health Center in Duluth with family at his side. He was born April 3, 1934, in Cass Lake, Minnesota, the son of Howard and Eva (Strong) Dickison.

Roy served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and received the National Defense Service Medal and a Purple Heart. He was a past commander and continuing member of the Carl Anderson American Legion Post 262 of Cloquet for 68 years.

He worked many years with carpenters and millwright unions. Roy also played for several years in the Cloquet Cribbage League. Roy enjoyed fishing, cooking for his family and friends, golfing, and spending time with his friends at the Lost Tavern.

Roy was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Rose Dickison; daughter, Mary Hintz; brothers, Everett, Donald and Ray, his twin brother; and a sister, Esther Berg. He is survived by his daughters, Joanne Kucin, Tammy Dickison and Tracy (Sean Johnson) Dickison; stepchildren, Kenny Dickson, Dale (Sally) Dickson, Bonnie (Todd) Nelson, and Julie (Paul) Dickson-Lee; grandchildren, Aubrey (Dylan) Stanford, and Jordan (Julie) Hintz; great-grandchildren, Greyson, Ian, Ayla, and Donavan; numerous step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Military honors will be presented at 1 p.m. Friday, July 28 at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery-Duluth in Saginaw followed by a time of fellowship at the Lost Tavern in Cloquet.

Roy's family thanks Essentia Health Hospice and the Franciscan Health Center for their excellent care for Roy.
