Fire victims subject of fundraising campaign

The Mangan family of Barnum is the subject of a crowdfunding campaign following a house fire July 8 that destroyed their home.

Adam, Laura, and toddler Hunter Mangan’s home on Grizzly Lane in Barnum Township was a total loss and required a harrowing escape outlined in the Go Fund Me appeal.

“Laura looked up to see smoke and flames coming from their home,” the narrative said. “She screamed for Adam and rushed into the house to grab little Hunter who was taking a nap in his crib. When she turned around flames had engulfed the door, so she pressed Hunter to her chest and ran through the flames out the front door. It was so hot her knees buckled and she fell forward sustaining burns on her shoulders and back and singeing her and Hunter’s hair.”

They all got out and are safe and alive, including their two dogs Duke and Grace, wrote Tara Helms, organizer of the campaign.

“However, the home and all of their belongings are a total loss,” added Helms, who thanked responders, including the Barnum, Moose Lake, Kettle River, Mahtowa and Carlton fire departments.

Funds raised will go toward expenses not covered by insurance.

“Please, if you are able, help support the Mangan’s in any way you can as they begin the immense challenge of rebuilding their lives,” Helms said. The goal of the campaign is $10,000 and it can be found at gofundme.com/f/mangan-family-house-fire-
