Richard E. “Rich” Holmi, 71, of Esko passed away Monday, Aug. 14, 2023, surrounded by his family at St. Luke’s Hospital in Duluth.
He was born Jan. 26, 1952, in Esko, the son of Arne and Gladyce (Randa) Holmi. Rich graduated from Esko High School in 1970.
He worked at St. Mary’s Hospital (now Essentia) in Duluth and most recently for Jack Link’s in Wisconsin.
Rich was an avid hunter and fisherman and also enjoyed trapping, bicycling, street ministry, and photography. He was very religious and was a member of Good Hope Church. Most of all, he loved his grandchildren.
Rich was preceded in death by his parents and his uncle, Walter Holmi. He is survived by his wife, Cheryl Holmi; sons, Rick (Tina Szymczak) Holmi and Dan (Sarah) Holmi; stepson, Jason Lawrence; stepdaughter, Michelle Lawrence; sisters, Kay (Mike) Ryan and Susan (Dale) Sloan; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and four nieces and nephews.
Visitation: Noon until the 1 p.m. service Sunday, Aug. 27, 2023, at Nelson Funeral Care in Cloquet, followed by refreshments in the fellowship room. Interment service will be at 9 a.m. Monday, Aug. 28 at St. Matthews Cemetery.
