Wright/Cromwell news

The Area Clothing Depot is 30 years old this month. It started in 1992 at the old creamery building in Cromwell. State Sen. Becky Lourey came and donated many items and helped with sorting. Pat Andarko of Bruno came, and a television news crew also came.

The Depot moved to the upper level of the old Wright School in 1993. In the summer of 2007, the Depot moved to the lower levels of the old Wright School. It moved to its current location in Cromwell in 2009.

The current (and longtime) manager is Beanie Randa. Board members are president Jennie Hanson, vice president Art Jauss, secretary Shirley Walli, treasurer Vivian Murdock, Judy Gilbertson, Ailie Costello, Bob Hanson and Mary Oja. There are many active volunteers doing the sorting and displaying and hauling.

The mission states the Depot “is organized exclusively for charitable and religious purposes, specifically to uphold the dignity of all users … and to encourage community involvement.”

In other news, it’s the second week of hunting and while many men (and some women) are gone, the rest of us are going here and there to various church suppers, craft sales and bazaars. It’s amazing how many things there are to do if you just look around and keep informed.

The Lakeside Club’s mojakka supper was well-attended, and the door prize drawings were a huge success. Thanks to all the area businesses that donated items or gift certificates. I even walked away with a few, which I will enjoy using or sharing.

I hear the two Veterans Day programs in Cromwell were very well-attended and appreciated. A Quilt of Valor was given to Barb Setterquist, and Leonard Stokke won a quilt in a drawing, both at the Villa Vista. All veterans are to be thanked and honored on this day and throughout the whole year.

Congratulations to Kyra Granholm and Siiena Anderson for making the Polar League volleyball all-conference first team.

The high school choir bake sale is 1-7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 22 at the Cromwell Park Pavilion. Come get your baked goods for Thanksgiving weekend. If you would like to donate, homemade or store-bought baked goods are welcome. All items must be shelf-stable and include some kind of a tag or label stating any food allergens. Nonfood items such as craft kits, bracelets, ornaments, and whatnot are welcome. Proceeds go toward helping pay for the kids’ choir trip in March. Questions? Contact Amber Schiller, 218-316-0675.

The Villa Vista/Cardinal Court is asking for donations of gifts for the residents for Christmas. Suggested items include fun keychains, lanyards, nightgowns, gripper socks, men’s and women’s body wash, lotion, shampoo, tissues, felt markers, Diamond Dotz art kits, puzzles, fun door decor, floral arrangements, sympathy cards, stamps, jewelry, snap-button fleece tops, diabetic and regular candy, and cough drops. Best of all are cash donations. There are boxes positioned around town for donations, or you can drop them off at the Villa.

The Villa Vista/Cardinal Court family night is scheduled for 6 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 6.

That’s all the news from the Edge of Wright.
