Snow, better late than never

The woman found snowblowing on Carlton Avenue Monday wasn't alone this week as Carlton County received a healthy dose of snow from a storm that began Sunday and lingered into Wednesday. It was the first big snow of the winter that wasn't this year.

It was the kind of three-day blow that reminded area residents of what winter is usually like around here. Starting late Sunday, the snow piled up all this week, with heavy snow ending overnight into Wednesday but flurries expected into this weekend. Snowfall totals went above 20 inches in a swipe across northern Carlton County and up the shore of Lake Superior. Other areas had at least a foot of snow.

This week is spring break for Cloquet schools. At right, Kaya Petoletti, 2, makes a snow angel Tuesday, on the third day of the winter storm that hit most of Minnesota this week. "I can't believe we were blowing bubbles and playing outside last week and now we are making snow angels," said mom Morgan Petoletti, who shared photos of the fun at their Cloquet home.
