It’s hunting season, which made me recall one of the scarier moments for my husband, Bob, and me. It was 1990 and our son, Garrie, got shot in the face with a .22 rifle on Nov. 10. When I found out, I didn’t even know my name when I called 911. But Garrie walked out of the woods with just a small stream of blood and a small hole in his upper lip. Congratulations and best wishes to Robin Lake and Joshua Staub, both of the Rochester area, on their recent marriage on Oct. 5 in Pine Island, Minnesota. Robin is the daughter of Sharon and David Lake, and granddaughter of Leo Dahlberg. Our sympathies to the family of Brandi (Kenneth) Hascall of Wright on the death of her brother, Nathan Ehrich, 40, of Cotton. He died on Oct. 8 in Cotton. After losing my husband of 52 years on Oct. 1, I had to postpone his memorial service since I got Covid-19. Sometimes I wonder, “What else can happen?” But, as my mother always said, “This, too, shall pass!” So, with that in mind, Bob’s service has been rescheduled for visitation 5-7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 21, which will continue from noon until the 1 p.m. service Saturday, Oct. 22, all at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Wright. It is with a heavy heart that I write this week’s news column. My husband of 52 years, Bob Hanson, died Oct. 1 in our home with me by his side. He had been bedridden for the past few months and was surely ready to go, but the reality of his passing is just starting to set in. We will have a memorial service this coming weekend. I had the opportunity to go to the Premiere Theatres in Cloquet to see the movie “Where the Crawdads Sing.” It is a very good movie, had some questionable scenes, but all in all told a great story with no bad language. I was also impressed with the new reclining seats in the theater. I was comfortable and felt safe with the extra-spaced seating. Our sympathies go out to several families who have experienced the passing of family members. Ramona Darlene Steffer, 89, of Cromwell passed away peacefully Aug. 30 at Villa Court in Cromwell. She is survived by her children Renee Steffer, Robin (John) Line, Michael (Barb) Steffer and Gayland Steffer, and extended family. Harvest Festival is this weekend, Friday through Sunday, Sept. 9-11. We have a full schedule of events happening all three days! Grandchildren are wonderful gifts, and if you live long enough you get great-grandkids and maybe even great-great-grandkids. That is what we think of our grandkids, and now three great-grandkids. They were here for a visit last week and we made some wonderful memories. The great-grandkids — ages 4, 2, and 1 — were able to camp out in our yard and then spend the whole day with us along with their parents, making pancakes, chocolate chip cookies and playing with all the interesting toys and games I have for them.
