Wright/Cromwell news

Well, here it is — August. So far, our summer has gone well, as we haven’t had all the terrible weather disasters other parts of the country are experiencing. We are blessed to live in this area and can only hope for better times in the disaster areas. It’s also great to see so many of the hayfields all cut and baled up. Our field was done between the rains with no rain on it at all. Great timing, Dave!

There will be an open house celebration for Ray and Alice Gurske, Sheldon and the late Marion Larsen, and Shirley Walli on Saturday, Aug. 6 from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Wright Senior Center to thank them for their many years of service to the seniors and the community at large!

YOT (Young Old Timers) will meet at noon Tuesday, Aug. 9, at the Cromwell Park Pavilion. All area seniors (50 and older) are welcome to attend.

There’s no yoga Monday; it will resume Aug. 15 at 11 a.m. at the Cromwell Pavilion. Gear provided, cost is $3 a session.

The Farmers Co-op annual meeting is at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 10 at the Wright Senior Center. Lunch will be served by the seniors and there will be ten $10 store gift certificates for door prizes.

Bethlehem Lutheran in Wright will have its rummage sale 4-7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 12 and Saturday, Aug. 13 from 9 a.m. to noon. Lots of great buys and all items are by donation only. Donations of good used or new items are also welcome on Sunday after worship, around 10 a.m.

There will be a joint worship service with Bethlehem and Bethany at Bethany Lutheran in Cromwell at 10:30 a.m. Aug. 14. The youth group will be in charge of the service and talking about their mission trip to Florida. There’s no church in Bethlehem that day.

Alpha Delta Kappa will hold a rummage, bake, plant and crafts sale 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Aug. 19 and 20, at 38 County Road 138 in Barnum. All proceeds will go toward their scholarship and literacy projects. This is during the Carlton County fair, so try to go to both.

I am looking for volunteers to sit in the Little Red School and visit with folks at the Carlton County fair Aug. 18, 19, 20 and 21. Please call me at 218-357-2385 or 808-366-6582 if you are willing to help. Or, email [email protected]. The shifts are usually for two or three hours.

If you have news for this column, please get a hold of me via email or snail mail, and I will try my best to get it into the news.

I just finished reading a book — the main characters are Atticus, Jem and Scout. Can you name the book? Also, read the sequel “Go Set a Watchman” by the same author.

That’s all the news from The Edge of Wright. Have a great week and hope to see you soon.
