Members of the Carlton VFW Post 2962 voted to donate $1,000 to the Salvation Army food shelf in Cloquet, knowing that the free food service helps community members and veterans.

Salvation Army social services coordinator Sue Butkiewicz said donations are needed.

"Our numbers are pretty much doubling," she said.

"Hopefully that $1,000 will get you $10,000 worth of food," said VFW Commander Randy McCuskey, thanking the patrols at the Post canteen for their support of the veteran group's many fundraisers.

The Salvation Army drive-thru food shelf is open 4:30-6 p.m. Mondays and 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Tuesdays. Call 218-879-1693 to find out more about the food shelf.
