The parking lot at Pinehurst Park saw more action than a McDonald's drive-through Tuesday night, with numerous cars parked in clumps around the lot while other vehicles moved through slowly. Albert “Pete” W. White, age 84 of Carlton, passed away Tuesday, April 23, 2019 at Inter-Faith Care Center. He was born August 10, 1934 in Cloquet, MN to Alfred and Edna (Larson) White and graduated from Cloquet High School. Pete served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany for 18 months. He was united in marriage to Marjorie Zimmerman on April 27, 1957 in Cloquet. Pete worked for 46 years for Wood Conversion, Conwed Corporation and USG Interiors. She was born Nov. 30, 1930 in Cloquet to Harry and Frances (Grabowski) Youngbauer and graduated from Cloquet High School in 1948. Harriet was united in marriage to Floyd W. According to city administrator Aaron Reeves, Cloquet Police Chief Jeff Palmer was placed on "voluntary paid leave" effective April 16. Reeves said he could not elaborate on Palmer's absence, but said it wasn't a result of the investigation of former police chief Wade Lamirande's complaints about Palmer. The Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa purchased the 43-room AmericInn hotel at 1716 Highway 201 in Carlton, for $2.85 million from REETI, LLC on March 8, according to Carlton County records. According to Carlton County assessor Kyle Holmes, the Band now owns several properties along that section of Highway 210, including the Royal Pines Inn, the former Spirits gas station/restaurant and the Dons Dens property. A Minnesota Department of Natural Resources conservation officer has died in the line of duty following an incident Friday, April 19 on Cross Lake in Pine City. CO Eugene Wynn, who patrolled the Pine City station, and a deputy with the Pine County sheriff’s office were responding to a report of possibly a body in the water. Roger Fenton Davis, 87, of Cloquet, Minn. passed away Sunday, April 14, 2019 in Barnes Care in Esko with his loving family by his side. He was born Aug. 9, 1931 in Sisseton, S.D. to Frank and Marion Davis. In 1938 the family moved to Superior, Wis. Roger graduated from Superior Central High School in 1949.
