Horseback riders refined their dressage and hunter/jumper skills at the Northwoods Dressage Association clinic at River Ranch Farm in Esko last week. On Thursday, June 20 at approximately 5:45 a.m., the clerk at TJ’s Country Corner store in downtown Mahtowa arrived at work to discover that the building had been burglarized sometime since closing the night before. Carlton County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded. The Cloquet City Council meeting for July 2 was canceled, so the next meeting — to be held at the new City Hall location at 101 14th Street — is scheduled for July 16. More than four years ago, then county highway engineer Mike Tardy sold a half-percent sales tax levy to upgrade county roads (those identified by a number above 100). A grand total of 27 teams with close to 130 people participated in the 21st annual Cloquet Chamber golf outing June 10. This is the third year that Doreen and Duane Laveau have hosted folks on their farm for a celebration of Carlton County’s dairy industry.
