Created by Pine City's LeRoy Samuelson in 2010, the four-day, four-person Senior Scramble recently completed play at five golf courses in the region. While Samuelson passed away a few years ago, his sons, Loren and Brad, have continued organizing the September event. This year, 22 teams, with many from Carlton County, cleared their golf schedules to play. The Minnesota Wilderness scored in dramatic fashion to tie the game Saturday, but still fell to the Chippewa Steel in overtime, 4-3. Carol Annette (Lussier) Bergstrom, 85, of Cloquet passed away peacefully Sept. 20, 2023 at St. Luke's Hospital in Duluth. Carol was born in Red Lake, at the Red Lake Indian Hospital to Elsie Lussier on Jan. 8, 1938. She was lovingly raised by her grandparents Adam and Mary Lussier. Carol attended St. Mary's Mission school for grades K-8 and graduated from Red Lake High School in 1956. She was a proud member of the Red Lake Band of Chippewa Indians. Justin Adrian Daniel Eller, 47, of Esko, a very proud U.S. Navy veteran, died unexpectedly in a tragic accident on Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2023. He was born on May 31, 1976, in Moose Lake to Dan Eller and Susan Cartie. James "Jim" Bragge, 85, passed away on Aug. 29, 2023, in North Branch. Jim was born March 6, 1938, in St. Paul to Elmer and Beulah (Fitzgerald) Bragge. He grew up in Carlton. After graduating from Carlton High School in 1956, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served four years stationed at Point Mugu Naval Air Station outside of Los Angeles.
