The Carlton/Wrenshall Raptors took top honors in last week's Arrowhead Softball League playoffs with an impressive 10-1 win over Esko in the U16/U18 division. "It was a fun summer season of softball for our girls," said Raptors coach Brent Pokornowski. "We had a nice playoff run and it was good for the girls to end with a big win." Harold Michael Burgraff, 73, of Garden Grove, California passed away July 16, 2022, surrounded by family. Harold was born Aug. 11, 1948. He grew up in Cloquet with his two brothers, George and Jim. He later joined the U.S. Air Force, where he met his wife Barbara, and got his nickname "Burgie." Rex Wood, 61, of Cloquet passed away surrounded by his loving family Sunday, July 31, 2022. Rex was born Sept. 14, 1960, in Waterloo, Iowa, to Ross and Phyllis (Merfeld) Wood. His early years were spent in Sumner, Iowa. On Aug. 2, 1980 in Cedar Falls, Iowa Rex married Rebecca Olson. They had four children, Ryan, Amanda, Andrea, and Rhianna. Clara B. Muermann, 98, Cloquet, passed away July 28, 2022, at Inter-Faith Care Center in Carlton. She was born June 1, 1924, in Chetek, Wisconsin to Lawrence and Pauline (Hess) Amundson. Clara graduated from Chetek High School in 1942. After high school she moved to Washington, D.C. and California and did secretarial work for the war effort. Nancy Ann Molstad, 82, of Saginaw passed away in her home July 26, 2022. She was born Feb. 20, 1940, in Duluth, the daughter of Melvin and Grace (Kanipes) Weselik. The Minnesota Wilderness have added former Bemidji State Beaver Kyle Brodie to its coaching staff. A native of Northglenn, Colorado, Brodie comes to Cloquet after spending the last six seasons working with AAA programs in Wenatchee, Washington. Brodie’s playing career ended in 2015-16, as he concluded with 51 games as a defenseman with the Columbus Cottonmouths. A 17-year-old Kettle River boy was killed last weekend after the Jeep he was driving crossed the centerline and collided with another vehicle. Sebastien Jakob Blondo was traveling east on Minnesota Highway 210 outside Aitkin when the crash occurred shortly after 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 6, a Minnesota State Patrol news release said.
