    The Section 7AA girls team tennis tournament is one of the toughest sections in the state. With an unprecedented 17 teams, it is almost impossible to win a section title.     The Cloquet boys cross country team took first place in Tuesday's Lake Superior Conference meet, outrunning Proctor by five points. Cloquet junior Miles Fischer took first place, covering the hilly 5K course at Duluth's Grand View golf course in 16:50, with teammate Jake Mertz finishing in second in 16:56.4.     The Cloquet-Esko-Carlton boys kicked off their 7AA post-season play Tuesday, entering the game against Mesabi East as favorites and for good reason, winning 9-1. The first-half action started quickly as CEC's Elijah Aultman put one away 8 minutes in.     Esko is out of the playoffs but the Lumberjacks head to the 7AA section final Tuesday, after beating Denfeld Thursday. 7AA With a 14-2 record, the Cloquet girls soccer team are the top seed in Section 7AA. The Lumberjacks had a bye in the first round and defeated Denfeld 2-0 in the semifinals Thursday, Oct. 14 in Cloquet.   • Updated: Victims, alleged shooter identified in Brookston area deaths

    A man suspected of killing two other men shot and killed himself early Saturday morning after a short pursuit by law enforcement in St. Louis County west of Cloquet. According to a press release from the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office, the man -- identified as Cody Pirila, 31 -- confessed to the murders to a 911 dispatcher while he was being pursued by a state trooper and indicated he wanted to kill himself.     The Minnesota Department of Corrections (DOC) is requesting the public’s assistance in locating Daryl Brian Quagon, a person recently released from prison on Intensive supervised release whose whereabouts are currently unknown. Mr. Quagon is 56 years-old, 6 feet tall, and weighs approximately 190 lbs. He has black hair often worn in a ponytail and has brown eyes.
