Community Memorial Hospital Auxiliary members and staff posed in an emergency room with a stack of fleece blankets donated by the auxiliary to be given to young children who come in. The CMH Auxiliary had two meet-and-greet events recently for those interested in becoming a volunteer at the hospital and Sunnyside Health Care Center. Entering Tuesday night's Section 7A girls hockey playoffs, the Lumberjacks were more than heavily favored. In the late 1970s and early 1980s, the hockey rink at Cloquet's Athletic Park on 14th Street was a hopping spot. Ice skates weren't always required. On Monday evenings from January until March, the rink was reserved for broomball. Cloquet Community Education, led by director Gary Welton, organized and conducted a men's broomball league. As I sit down to type this week's news, it's a balmy 40 degrees in Wright. Just think, one year ago, it was 30 to 40 below zero with a wind chill of minus 50 degrees. The results are in and an overwhelming number of people who filled out a recent survey support the Carlton and Wrenshall school districts creating a consolidated district. Across the board, in age categories and among those who have children in the district and those who don't, 80 percent of respondents want consolidation.
