Cloquet Area Fire District firefighters lost more than an arson detection dog when K-9 Wish was euthanized Monday, they lost a friend. A mix of golden retriever and Labrador, Wish had been with the fire district and her handler, Jason Maki, for nine years. I was appalled to read that Jeff Dotseth is campaigning on his support for “Stand Your Ground” laws. Cloquet High School hosted the Section 7AA True Team meet on Tuesday afternoon under sunny skies and temperatures that zoomed into the 80s. It was the first real warm day for track athletes, giving them a chance to show their abilities. Roy William Bohren, 92, of Duluth died Saturday, May 7, 2022, in Ecumen Lakeshore in Duluth. He was born on Oct. 12, 1929, in Cloquet to Fred and Aili Bohren. He was raised in Esko and graduated from Esko High School in 1947. He married Phyllis Paulson in 1955. Roy served in the U.S. Air Force from 1951 to 1955. Joseph W. Puckett, 83, of Duluth passed away May 5, 2022, in St. Luke’s Hospital. He was born Feb. 15, 1939, the son of LeRoy (“Roy”) and Elma Puckett (Vanguilder) Puckett. Joe attended school in Wrenshall, and worked as a carpenter for many years and retired from Diamond Tool after 29 years. He married Linda Halase on Sept. 20, 1986. A couple of weeks ago I predicted the 2022 fishing opener could be fantastic. As the big day approaches and the weather forecast solidifies, I’m sticking to my guns. Last Thursday six area boys and girls track teams met in Esko for the Esko Sports Alliance Showcase Invitational track meet. In the end the Esko boys and girls dominated to take first place, but there were plenty of amazing performances to go around. Perhaps the most impressive performance was turned in by the Esko boys 4x100 relay team which ran a state best and school record: 43.57. Edward Erick Karjala, 67, of Cloquet passed away peacefully surrounded by family May 5, 2022 at the age of 67. He was born May 7, 1954, the beloved son of Blanche Mae and Edward William Karjala.
